01/02/2010 - Berkeley, CA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - California star running back Jahvid Best announced Saturday he will enter the NFL Draft in 2010 and skip his senior season.
"Over the past couple of weeks and over the past month, my family and I have been offered the opportunity to enter the NFL and now we have a decision," said Best. "It wasn't an easy decision. We sat down, we met with coach [Jeff] Tedford and talked about the pros and cons, and after weighing out the pros and cons, we decided to enter the draft and forego my senior season at Cal."
Best was limited to nine games this season after suffering a concussion against Oregon State on November 7. He was forced to sit out the remaining four games, including the Golden Bears' Poinsettia Bowl loss to Utah last week.
The junior was injured after he leaped into the end zone on a seven-yard score. While in the air, he was hit and landed on his back, while his helmet was knocked off as he hit the ground. Best was immobilized, lifted onto a gurney and taken to Highland General Hospital before being released a day later.
He ended the season with 867 yards and 12 touchdowns on 141 carries and added 213 yards and four scores on 22 catches. His 16 TDs overall fell two short of the school's all-time single-season mark.
In his three years at Cal, Best amassed 2,668 yards to finish seventh on the school's all-time rushing list. His 29 rushing scores leave him tied for third all-time while his 35 total career touchdowns rank him fourth in Cal's annals.

Despite a poor showing in last season's playoffs and the loss of Steve Yzerman to retirement, the Detroit Red Wings are early favourites at this online sportsbook with wagering odds of 6-1. The Wings will look to offensive powerhouse Pavel Datsyuk and newly appointed captain Nicklas Lidstrom to lead one of the league's most prominent franchises.
Always a threat are the Ottawa Senators, with newly acquired goaltender Martin Gerber from the Stanley Cup champion ,Carolina Hurricanes. The Sens are second best in the rankings at a 7-1 bet, and odds makers at this sportsbook are optimistic that the Ottawa squad will fare better than last season's Eastern Conference semi-final upset to the Buffalo Sabres.
